Bethany J. Powell, ENV SP
Chairman and President
Bethany is Chairman and President of Powell CWM. She was elected Chairman of the Board in 2017, and has served as President since acquiring CWM, Inc. in September of 2016. Bethany was a founding member of Powell and Associates and served as the Managing Member from 2005 to 2016.
Bethany leads the firm’s workforce of professionals, drives the long-range strategy and builds new markets and capabilities. With her strategic insight, direction and supportive leadership Powell has seen significant growth, stability and increased profitability.
As the leader of Powell CWM, she understands the importance of building an environment that revolves around; diversity, integrity, accountability, compassion, humility, simplicity and a focus on success. She has created a vibrant company culture where ideas can blossom, people can thrive and success can flourish.
In addition to her roles as Chairman and President, Bethany serves as the principal-in-charge on numerous projects and is responsible for committing the firm’s resources, driving innovative solutions, and supervising quality and timeliness of project delivery. Bethany also oversees contract administration, project management and provides support and expertise in sustainable design solutions.
Bethany is passionate about equal opportunities for women. Because of the gender gap in the engineering, architecture and land surveying fields, she actively seeks to create a level playing field for women in these professions. Bethany is a member of the Kansas City Chapter of Women Construction Owners and Executives (WCOE) and enjoys attending the networking events to help raise awareness and support for local women-owned businesses.
Jeremy M. Powell, PMP, PLS, CFedS, ENV SP
Jeremy is a licensed Professional Land Surveyor and in 2011 he received his Certified Federal Surveyors (CFedS) certification from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The CFedS program, which has been approved by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior, was designed specifically to enhance the level of knowledge and expertise in the professional land surveying community for cadastral survey work performed on federal lands and on Indian trust lands.
Jeremy is adept at being responsive and sensitive to stakeholders, focusing intently on meeting budgetary and schedule requirements. He uses his expert interpersonal skills to build productive relationships with clients, stakeholders and staff.
He has managed several large, multi-year projects consisting of geospatial data collection, photogrammetry, utility mapping, right-of-way retracements, land acquisition documentation, construction surveying services, land development, planning, and entitlement services.
Toby Williams, PE, PMP, LEED AP ND
Director of Engineering
Toby is Director of Engineering at Powell CWM, and is responsible for overseeing the design output of Powell CWM’s engineering team, with an emphasis on maintaining a high quality product while providing superior client satisfaction.
With nearly two decades of design and construction experience, he has successfully managed projects for clients in California, Kansas and Missouri. He is an expert who works to deliver integrated solutions for clients in the industrial, federal and public sectors. Toby’s calm demeanor helps him to consistently analyze problems and produce solutions. His focus on client needs is paramount to the success of his projects.
Toby received his Masters of Science from Kansas State University. He is also LEED AP ND certified and holds his Project Management Professional certification.
Nathan Boen, RA, NCARB, AIA
Nathan is a graduate of the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. He is a Registered Architect in Kansas and Missouri and holds certificates from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and the American Institute of Architects.
Nathan brings industry experience and leadership to a diverse range of project types in all phases of design from concept and schematic design to construction documentation and administration. He has an ability to evaluate and optimize new and existing buildings to ensure that the buildings are flexible, efficient and attractive.
Nicholas Miller, PLS
Manager of Land Surveying
From 1999 to 2013 Nick worked in the private development sector. He partnered with clients to gain approval from the regulating authorities for both residential and commercial developments. In 2013, Nick made a career change and moved into the oil and gas industry as a Survey Coordinator. In this position he coordinated and managed projects from the initial scope and fee preparation to the final deliverables. In addition he coordinated multiple survey crews in various locations throughout the United States.
Nick holds a Professional Land Surveying license in Missouri and is an FAA Certified sUAS Remote Pilot. He brings our team the experience he has gained from working on numerous projects involving boundary and topographic surveys for both small and large-scale pipeline construction and gas well location projects.
Nick is eager, motivated and has the skillset to complete projects on time and within budget.
Michelle Brown, PLS
Michelle has over a decade of land surveying experience. She enjoys all aspects of surveying and likes the flexibility of working outside in the field and in the office. She also serves as an E6-Tech Sergeant, in the Air National Guard, working in Aviation Resource Management.
Michelle, received her degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design from UCM, and obtained her license in 2016. She has also attended USAF Airman Leadership School.
We’re excited to see her apply her industry experience and education to continue to grow our Land Surveying Department.
